Black paint Leica M2 will be auctioned 36th Leitz camera auction will be held
There will be more than 400 lots appearing in the 36th camera auction held by the famous auction house “Leitz Camera Auction”. Many important lots and special collections are about to be intense Bidding. Most of the lots in this auction were manufactured by Leitz/Leica as always.
This heavyweight lot includes the famous photographer Walker Evan Leica M2 camera in black paint. Walker Evans is an American photographer and photojournalist. He is one of the most important photographers of the 20th century, mainly shooting in the United States. However, his great artistic influence is not limited to the United States, it has been proven all over the world. Walker Evans bought this camera in 1962 and used it until 1973. He later gave the camera to his personal assistant as a gift.
Other auction highlights include the gray paint Leica M2Betriebskamera. In 1960, Leitz produced 20 gray-lacquered M2 cameras. According to current information, there are only about 10 left in this series. Therefore, the gray-lacquered M2 is one of the rarest series of Leica products ever. The camera for this auction is a pre-production sample of the original gray M2, the serial number is 2071. It is one of the Leica M2 Betriebskameras batches, manufactured between 1958 and 1962.
There is also a very interesting camera-Leica 0 series prototype machine. As a well-known transitional sample camera, it temporarily replaced the transition period between Ur-Leica and the first series of 0-series production models in history. It is a very interesting compound, showing the technological development process from prototype prototype to early mass production camera. The cameras in this auction have undergone several renovations during their use. It can be seen that it has been used as a test camera for many years. This lot contains detailed expert identification by Mr. OttmarMichaely.
Many Leica experts, such as Paul-Henryvan Hasbroeck and Ottmar Michaely, have confirmed the important historical significance of this special camera. It appears in the book “Leica-Illustrated Historical Models and Accessories” by Paul-Henryvan Hasbroeck.
Leitz Camera Auction is very happy to cooperate with the Vienna charity organization CaritasWien again to auction for charity. The Leica M10 prototype P01 differs from the M10 camera in production in some small details, such as the pop-up design of the ISO wheel, no buttons on the front of the camera, and a different battery compartment. This is an attractive camera and a treasure with great collection potential.
The camera auction will be held on June 13, 2020. Bids can be submitted online through www.leitz-auction.com, or in writing or by phone. At that time, the entire auction will also be livestreamed globally on www.liveauctioneers.com and www.unvalued.com.
