The new crown epidemic has forced more and more people to work remotely from home, and the demand for web cameras has also increased rapidly . To this end, in April of this year, Canon launched a beta version of the EOS Webcam Utility for the Windows platform, which can use the camera as a high-resolution webcam. Now the application has been officially released and compatibility has been improved.
Canon said that the EOS Webcam Utility beta has been downloaded more than 700,000 times worldwide since its release, allowing people to use EOS interchangeable lens cameras and PowerShot cameras to join virtual office meetings, or chat with their loved ones online.
At that time, this app only supported 25 models. After the official release, this number has increased to 42. New models include EOS 5D and EOS R5 And R6, Rebel T3 and T8i. For the full production version, the utility has been confirmed to work with 13 video chat and streaming applications, including Zoom, YouTube Live, Facebook Live, Messenger, Skype, and Microsoft Teams.
The official version of EOS Webcam Utility for Windows can be downloaded from Canon’s support portal. The macOS version is currently still in beta.
