Ricoh releases new WG-70 rugged camera to support underwater macro shooting

   Ricoh has just released a new WR series of compact digital cameras. It is the WG-70 that uses a sturdy shape design and claims to support underwater macro photography. At the first sight of WG-70, we were attracted by the six LED flashes surrounding the lens. It is worth mentioning that the focus starting distance of this machine is as close as 1 cm, which is a good choice for photographers who like to carry super macro lenses with them.

   The camera uses a 16MP @ 1/2.3-inch CMOS sensor, With the support of waterproof function, Ricoh WG-70 can also take photos of marine life closer than other cameras.

The    sensor supports multiple focus modes, including 9-point, single-point, and self-tracking. However, what surprised us the most was the surprisingly large zoom range of the camera: from 1 ~ 3 CM / 0.03 ~ 0.98 feet for the macro, to 0.5 meters / 1.64 feet in the standard mode.

  The camera contains 9 groups / 11 lenses with a focal length between 5 ~ 25 mm.

   aperture range from F3.5 to F5.5, and supports 5x optical zoom, 7M @ 7.5x digital zoom, and 640 @ 36X smart zoom.

   In terms of robustness, Ricoh WG-70 also surpasses ordinary people It has JIS 8 waterproof and JIS 6 dustproof.

   The official claim is that the water resistance is 14 meters, the drop height is 1.6 meters, and it can work at a low temperature of -10°C.

   There is a 2.7-inch “widescreen LCD” on the back of the fuselage, and the back of the viewfinder is covered with an anti-glare coating. About 68MB of built-in storage, and can be expanded by SD / SDHC / SDXC memory card.

  WG-70 uses a rechargeable D-LI92 lithium-ion battery, charges and transmits data through a USB 2.0 cable, or uses a D-type HDMI terminal to output video/image.

   Finally, the machine will be available on Ricoh’s official website and retail stores in mid-March 2020, priced at approximately US$280.
